Jen Rusciano - FoodCorps Representative
Jen believes that food is one of the best ways to know a community. She has spent the past several years getting to know various communities in this way: from an urban gardening project with non-profit Summer in the City in her hometown Detroit to her college research on issues of food security, food assistance programs, and barriers to food access facing pantry clients in Central New York. As a Watson Fellow, she took her farming interest abroad to Europe, Africa, and Central & South America, tracing chocolate to its source in cacao farming communities worldwide.
Jen is excited to return for a second year of FoodCorps service with Food System Economic Partnership in SE Michigan, where she will continue to bring fresh food into schools through local sourcing, building gardens, and working with students and farmers, all while building on the service she did last year, including organizing a Local Food Growers and Buyers meet and greet to advance relationships between Food Service Directors and farmers.
