City Chicks!
Yes, that's our own Mr. Houttekier building our very first CHICKEN COOP! Why? You ask... Let us share the benefits of keeping a micro-flock of laying hens as garden helpers, compost makers, bio-recyclers and local food suppliers!
- There is an urban underground City Chicks Movement exploding in America.
- City folks are flocking to keep chickens!
- Most of the wind-beneath-the-wings of this movement is the desire for locally produced foods, food supply independence, and an act of living green.
- Raising backyard chickens is part of the urban farming movement and it is gaining popularity as commercial food prices go up and its nutritional quality is questionable.
- "Buy Local", "Grow Local" & "Eat Local" is increasingly becoming a slogan of community food self-sufficiency.
- Best of all our Team Nutrition's students will benefit from fresh eggs during their cooking days.
- Our Edible Garden will benefit from the chicken compost. Buck-Buck-Buck!
